Human Cortex

Following the first release in November 2007, additional data continues to be added to this dataset. Currently, the database contains ISH data for approximately 1000 genes in both visual cortex and temporal cortex from non-diseased adult male and female subjects. Genes in this dataset comprise several categories of broad scientific and clinical interest: cortical cell type markers, disease-related genes, genes identified from comparative genomics literature, and gene families important to neural function such as ion channels, G-protein-coupled receptors, and transporters.

A second phase of this study to generate ISH data for a focused set of genes in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) across a larger cohort, including both non-diseased and schizophrenic subjects, is just beginning, and the resulting data will be included in this database in the future.

Additional information regarding tissue samples and methodology, FAQ, people and organizations who have contributed to this project, and the project application can be accessed under the Human Cortex project tab.
